The Fall River Shrine Patrol (FRSP) is NAJA'S Shrine Unit in the
Southern gateway to the Black Hills. We were once called the
"STARBIRDS" and you might see that name on some fezes. The
name starbirds came from the go carts that were purchased several years ago (they were starbirds) and most of which we still use. There was a need to diversify the unit and have different activities, so we changed the name.
Our membership is open to all shriners in the Hot Springs and Edgemont area and all Noble in good standing in Naja Shrine. Our objective is to provide a well organized and instructed group of member to promote Shrinedom, support Naja activities, perform in a mannerly fashion in all parades and promote social activities and good fellowship.
We meet on the first thursday of the month at 7P.M. in the Masonic Lodge building in Hot Springs except for May and September when we try to meet at the Masonic Building in Edgemont.
We participate in Shrine and Non-Shrine Parades by riding our go-carts, driving out 1957 VW, which looks like a Model T Woody, and out 1992 Pontiac convertible, recently we acquired the hillbillies Parade unit, which is a lawn tractor pulling several two wheeled vehicles. We aggressively support the Sports Show, both Naja Circuses, the Midwest, all ceremonials, and international Shrine events when they are in the midwest region.
All of our Nobles are a member of the southern hills Shrine Club(SHSC) and many belong to other Naja units. We welcome all to visit first, become a member if you so desire and join with us in the fun. However, if distance precludes this, we highly encourage all Nobles to get active in a local unit, discover what Shriners do and have a fun time.

The Naja Classics is an organization of classic car and truck
owners of any make or model. The members enjoy driving them as
well as talking about them and showing them off. THe unit participates
in the Ceremonial Parades and during the summer months try to
organize a "drive through the hills" trip.
The Director's Staff is a unit headed by the Naja Temple Director
who is appointed by the Potentate. This unit is charged with
the responsibility to organize and perform the Second section
of the Temple Ceremonials.

The Naja Flying Aces is that group of fun-loving Shriners ranging in age from 25 to older-than-dirt you see in the parades "driving those funny-looking, little colorful go-cart-like airplanes."
Few of us are pilots (most aren't); some of us aren't even very good drivers (some ARE); but ALL of us believe strongly in having a good time as a Unit and working hard together to secure monies for the Shrine Hospital Transportation Fund; being a solid supporting force behind the Annual Shrine Circus through ticket sales and manpower support; and upholding ALL good works of this great fraternity to which we belong.
We meet on the first Monday of every month (unless the weather is too ugly, then we wait a few days or a week and do it anyway). One month, we have dinner and a meeting and bring along our Ladies for a good time, fellowship, and some serious (yeah, real serious) Shriner sharing time. The next month, officers and board members meet along with anybody else who wants to join in and get involved.
We participate in as many parades as we can each year, and, of course -- all that the Illustrious Potentate and our By-Laws, Policies and Protocol require. The annual fee for membership into this fine group is a WHOPPING $10 bill.

The Naja Cowboys are comprised of Shriners and their families
that enjoy riding horses. Members generally reside in the western
part of South Dakota.
The Cowboys have restored an old Deadwood Stagecoach that is
used for parades. Other members escort the stage on horseback.
The Cowboys participate in several parades throughout the year.
The Cowboys also host an annual trail ride and picnic in September
for members and non-members. The trail ride is held at different
locations in western South Dakota.

The Naja T's are a group of Shriners located primarily in the
Southern Hills and headquarter out of Custer, and ride 4 wheeled
ATVs. We attend all Naja Temple ceremonials and participate in
numerous parades throughout the Black Hills and Surrounding Areas.

The Rapid City Shrine Clown Unit was formed by members of the
Rapid City Shrine Club in the early 1960's and has grown and
prospered to become one of the Naja Shriners largest units. The
clown unit strives to bring enjoyment to young and old alike
by participating in not only our own annual Shrine Circus which
is held in May of each year, but by participating in numerous
parades and other functions throughout the Black Hills and Surrounding
Areas.

Members of the Ritualistic Divan serve as a body of Nobles who perform the duty of bringing Brother Masons, who have met their pre-requisite requirements for membership, into the Ancient Arabic Order Nobles of the Mystic Shrine (A.A.O.N.M.S) and under the sheltering tent of the Naja Temple.
This basic theatrical group, consisting of from 5 to 15 Nobles of the Mystic Shrine, portray the "ceremonial" roles of the Illustrious Potentate, Chief Rabban, Assistant Rabban, the High Priest & Prophet, Oriental Guide, 1st Ceremonial Master, 2nd Ceremonial Master, Marshal, Captain of the Guard and the Outer Guard in full costume and regalia. Members of the group come from all across Naja's expansive area and hold practices in many different areas as needed.
The duty of the Ritualistic Divan is to bring each new member into the Shrine Brotherhood with full pomp and circumstance; to impress upon each new Shriner the lessons of Brotherly Love, Fidelity, Virtue and, above all, exemplify in each the importance of his obligation to do his part in the life-long benevolent support of Shriner's Hospitals for Crippled Children and Shriner's Burn Centers.
This tightly-knit group travels to the Spring and Fall Ceremonials, as well as, numerous 2-day All-the-Way events throughout the Oasis of Deadwood during the course of each year performing the Shrine 1st Section -- the swearing-in and education portion of each new Noble's journey across the hot sands of the desert into Srinedom.
To those new or seasoned Masons with a feel for the theater and a willingness to carry-on an age old tradition, and who feel they have a flair for some memorization and a lot of fun, be sure to just let one of the Ritualistic Divan members know during any of our upcoming events. This is one of few Uniformed Units of the Naja Shrine that, as of this writing, still has no annual membership fees, budget reporting, treasurer or secretary.
If you have any questions about this group, call President of the Ritualistic Divan, Larry Weiers at 722-5868, or drop him an Email at LRENT@rushmore.com. We know he will be getting back to you within a day or two.

The Air Patrol is a fun-loving unit that was originally formed
by pilots to transport other unit members to and from various
Shrine functions. In some instances, patients were transported
to the different Shrine Hospitals. Time has evolved the Air Patrol
into a family-oriented unit. There are still a few pilots, however,
the primary functions are family get-togethers, Noble and lady
get-togethers and riding the scooters in different parades.

The Santa Claus Unit consist of Naja Shriners who at Christmas
time visit nursing homes, the Kibben Custer School and the handicap
workshops at both the east and west locations in Rapid City.
All the nobles perform admirably and spread the "Christmas Cheer" by giving small gifts, hopefully making the Christmas much more
meaningful to those we visit.

The Flag Unit - Legion of Honor has taken on the principal duty
of presenting the Flags - American, Canadian, Naja Temple and
South Dakota, at the various functions.
In the early 1940’s the patients and one parent were either given bus tickets or driven or flown to the Shrine Hospitals by Nobles in their own vehicles or planes. These Nobles made hundreds of trips before the Hospital Division of Naja was started in the 1970’s. Six Nobles started a Travel Fund to pay the expenses and purchase a van. The Hospital Division started some fund raising projects to get money for the travel fund.
In 1982 Naja bought our first van to transport these children. The first few vans had between 170,000and 200,000 miles on them when we sold them. We now put on fewer miles before selling them because we can get a better deal at trade in time. At this time we have two large vans, and one mini van
In 1996 the Hospital Dads, became a unit of Naja. Dads, is an acronym for DRIVERS ARE DEDICACATED SHRINERS. The Hospital Dads Unit was formed solely for transporting children to hospitals. For the first 50 or 60 years, until about 1999, about 100 different Nobles drove or flew. Most of these Nobles have now retired from driving and a new group of Nobles have taken over the task. Currently we have 54 Nobles in Naja who proudly carry on the transportation duties. At this time we have about 450 active patients in our area, which is everything West of the river in SD. The Dads take most of these patients to the Minneapolis Shrine Hospital; their parents drive some.

The Legion of Honor was formed to perform the Third Degree work
from the masonic Ritual in those lodges where work had become
a constant happening and they would request a period of rest
by having the Legion of Honor do the work for them. We also perform
work for those lodges that do not have the personnel or membership
to do the degree work on their own. We are also able to provide
members for specific parts of the Ritual upon request.

The Greeters were organized in the early 1960s and their activity
is usually confined to official Temple or Shrine Club functions.
The most frequent activity is the performance of service and
traditional courtesies at Ceremonials, official parties and Shrine
club meetings as directed or requested by the Potentate or Club
President. In addition, the Greeters Unit functions as a "Sunshine
Committee" to report on illnesses or infirmities of members.
