Meetings

The Divan meets the second Wednesday of every month. Four stated meetings are held at the Temple in Deadwood in January, April, September, and December.  The rest are held at the Rapid City Shrine Club. All Nobles are welcome.

Illustrious Potentate

The Illustrious Potentate is responsible for the government of the Temple and has complete charge of the Shrine Clubs, Units, and Nobility.

Chief Rabban

The Chief Rabban acts as chairman of the Finance and Investment Committees. He must prepare the budget for the following year and submit it to the Temple for approval at the Annual Meeting. He serves as Chairman of the Shoblom, Baldwin, Tysdale and Naja Temple Children’s Hospital Fund Trusts, and coordinates periodic investment briefings to insure that investment decisions are transmitted to them. The Chief Rabban takes care of visiting Nobility, and sees to their accommodations and hospitality with the assistance of the Ambassadors. He assists the Hospital Division Chairman, attends Hospital Division Board meetings, and coordinates with Circus Chairmen and contracts for Shrine Circuses for the next calendar year. He performs other duties as requested by the Potentate. If the office of Potentate becomes vacant for any reason, the Chief Rabban shall act as Potentate until a special election is held and the office is filled.

Assistant Rabban

The Assistant Rabban serves as Vice Chairman of the Budget and Finance committees. He is in charge of Shrine Club coordination, assists and advises the Hospital Division Chairman, and attends all Hospital Division meetings. He assists the Chief Rabban. In the absence of the Potentate and Chief Rabban, the Assistant Rabban presides. He also performs other duties as requested by the Potentate.

High Priest and Prophet

The High Priest and Prophet serves as Chairman of Long Range Planning Committee. He is in charge of membership, and takes charge of Novices at Ceremonials to make sure they are in the right place at the right time. He assists the Assistant Rabban, and performs other duties as requested by the Potentate.

Oriental Guide

The Oriental Guide is responsible for fraternal relations, York & Scottish Rites, Blue Lodge, Demolay, and Jobs Daughters. He serves as Chairman of the Insurance Committee, temple success and trends, and assists the High Priest and Prophet. He performs other duties as requested by the Potentate.

First Ceremonial Master

The First Ceremonial Master fully coordinates all Temple Ceremonials. He serves as parliamentarian advisor to the Potentate, assists the Oriental Guide, and performs other duties as requested by the Potentate.

Second Ceremonial Master

The Second Ceremonial Master is In charge of all pilgrimages. He assists the High Priest and Prophet to see that Novices are properly escorted in Ceremonial Parades, and assists the First Ceremonial Master. He performs other duties as requested by the Potentate.

Director

The Director is Chairman of the Director’s Staff. He is in complete charge of the Second Section of all Temple Ceremonials, and performs other duties as requested by the Potentate.

Marshal

The Marshal is in charge of all Temple Parades and lines of parades, providing the proper signs for dignitary vehicles, Potentate, MSA Officers, etc. He coordinates with the Provost Unit and local authorities for parade routes, permits and security. He assists and advises the chairman of public relations and speakers bureau committees, and assists the Second Ceremonial Master. He performs other duties as requested by the Potentate.

Captain of the Guard

The Captain of the Guard is responsible for setting up stated meetings, and helping to organize and set up monthly divan meetings. He sees that proper guards are placed for all closed meetings, including Ceremonials. He assists the Marshal and performs other duties as requested by the Potentate.

Outer Guard

The Outer Guard assists the Captain of the Guard in securing the Temple from intrusion. He is in charge of equipment and uniforms, and serves as Chairman of Entertainment and Refreshment committees, equipping, supplying and manning hospitality rooms. He performs other duties as requested by the Potentate.

Chief of Staff

The Chief of Staff reports directly to the Potentate. He oversees and coordinates details of all Temple functions and events, except fund raising projects. He works closely with divan members and performs other duties as requested by the Potentate.

Divan/Unit Liaison

Each member of the Divan is assigned to Units to assure good communication between the working units of the Temple and leadership. Units are requested to place their assigned divan member on their mailing list to keep their liaison aware of their meetings and social events. A list of the Unit assignments for each divan member can be found in the Temple Directory each year.
